It is heartwarming to see your sixty plus parents, aunts, uncles and even grandparents using cellphones to stay connected. Kudos to them for not only accepting the new technology whole heartedly but also going an extra mile to learn something totally new. Of course, we have to thankfully place the credit where it is due, the wireless industry, researchers and vendors. One thing that is clear from these fairly recent developments in telecommunications is the possibility to several new applications, services and opportunities. While 3G, 4G and more recently, 5G has been at the forefront of human centric communication, the beyond 5G (B5G) era has the potential to digitize the physical industries like, transport, mining, manufacturing, oil& gas, water, electricity, military and list is open for all possible appends. To supports wireless communications functionalities in physical industries researchers are focusing on standardization and development of Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and Industry 4.0. These standardizations would help relates physical production and operations to smart digital technology using novel machine learning tools and big data algorithms.

The imminent research opportunities are umpteen as machines exceeds all human limitations. As a simple example while our neck can rotate only at an angle of 180 degrees and a panoramic view is sufficient, a robot can rotate and collect data at an angle of 360 degrees. So as the future researchers, developers, vendors and executives, we should be thinking of opportunities in a B5G world that are driven by machines as the main users!!
